In Sanskrit, vinyasa means “to place in a special way”. Ideal for current yoga practitioners. This practice incorporates sequential movement that interlinks postures (asanas) to form a continuous flow. It is essentially a moving meditation. This is a vigorous yoga practice that integrates traditional yoga postures sprinkled with strength and mobility exercises. Modifications and alternative postures are given throughout the practice.
This movement based class is suitable for anyone with a current yoga practice. The practice will change on a weekly basis and the theme will be posted on the website. The class will contain some vinyasa yoga each week mingled with pilates, strength training, range of motion exercises and mindfulness exercises. A variety of props will be used each week including the dowel, yoga tune-up balls, straps, blocks, weights and bolsters. Expect to move the entire body from head to toe in a safe and effective manner.
Peaceful Flow is a 60 minute hybrid class consisting of Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga. In this practice you we will create some heat as we practice basic traditional postures. The Yin portion of the class will offer postures with extended holds to release tension and fascia throughout the body. This practice ends with an extended relaxation which could include Yoga Nidra, Guided Meditation or traditional savasana. This class will benefit both new and seasoned yogis, although some yoga experience would be helpful.
Yoga Nidra or “Yogic Sleep” is a relaxation class. The entire body is resting in savasana during this 45-minute practice. The body is relaxed but the mind is present. Yoga Nidra can improve sleep, reduce stress and rid the body of psychological wounds. True healing can occur during this space between sleeping and waking. Unlike meditation where you are asked to focus on a mantra or your breath, Yoga Nidra simply asks you to let go. There is no concentration. The only senses used in this practice are listening and feeling. You will listen to the instructor and follow along with her mentally to restore your body, mind and senses to their natural function.
