Good morning from DharmaDog Yoga. We hope you all are staying warm. Now that the winter weather has arrived, all class cancellations will be posted on Facebook and our website. However, feel free to text us if you do not have access to these sites.
We are pleased to welcome Christine Calabrese, D.D.S. Dr. Calabrese will be offering a workshop on Friday, November 22nd at 5:00 p.m., Yoga and Meditation for Chronic Pain. Information regarding this program can be found on our website and Facebook. The workshop is suitable for anyone who suffers from chronic pain, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, RSD, etc. No prior yoga or meditation experience is necessary. The workshop will not be physically stressful nor will it create fatigue.
Chronic pain is much different from acute pain as it affects a portion of the brain associated with emotions. With acute pain, such as a sports-related injury, you will heal after rest, medication and physical therapy. However, with chronic pain, different neural pathways are involved. The pain is originating from the brain and not the physical source such as a broken bone. Many suffers of chronic pain avoid physical activity due to the concern of increased pain and discomfort. Dr. Calabrese will address this with gentle, pain-free movements you can incorporate in your daily life. Meditation techniques will help with the emotional aspect of chronic pain.
Lastly, for those of you who are podcast fans, I recently listened to an episode on SuperSoul Conversations with Oprah and Lady Gaga called: "Heal Through Kindness". Lady Gaga has been suffering from fibromyalgia for a very long time. Her discussion is moving and insightful. You can find this on Spotify. The link to this podcast can be found on our Facebook page.
With the holidays quickly approaching, we will start collecting gently used items for the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. We will also sponsor another fundraiser for our local furry friends! Look for more information at the studio shortly.
Remember to take some time for yourself this holiday season! DharmaDogYoga has you covered!!
